About Katie Duval, LCSW
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the therapist behind Novita Counseling.
I became a therapist because I believe people deserve a space where they can be fully human without judgment, pressure, or the feeling that they have to have everything figured out before they ask for help.
My work is especially focused on trauma, anxiety, relationships, major life transitions, and helping people reconnect with themselves after difficult experiences. I am trained in EMDR and frequently draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and other trauma-informed approaches.
My style is warm, collaborative, and practical. I want therapy to feel supportive, but I also want it to be useful. We may spend time understanding where certain patterns came from, but we will also focus on what can help you move forward now.
I do not believe therapy should feel like someone sitting across from you with all the answers. You are the expert on your own life. My role is to help you understand yourself more deeply, notice patterns that may be keeping you stuck, process what has been painful, and build the skills and confidence to create meaningful change.
Previously, I worked in community mental health with adults navigating a wide range of challenges, including trauma, depression, anxiety, housing instability, relationship difficulties, and major life stressors. That experience taught me that healing rarely follows a perfectly straight line, and that people are often far more resilient than they realize.
You do not have to become an entirely new person. Sometimes healing is about returning to yourself — with more understanding, more freedom, and a little more room to breathe.
A Little About My Approach
Clients who work well with me are often looking for a therapist who is compassionate without being overly clinical, supportive without simply agreeing with everything, and willing to have genuine conversations about what is actually happening in their lives.
I value authenticity, curiosity, humor when it fits, and creating a space where you do not have to perform or say the “right” thing.
Most importantly, I want you to feel like there is an actual person on the other side of the screen who is invested in helping you move toward a life that feels more like your own.
If you think we might be a good fit, I’d love to connect.
